The success and split of Salim-Javed is a classic example of teamwork at its best. Together, they created 22 hits out of the 24 films they worked on, including timeless classics like Sholay, Don, and Deewar. After a decade of partnership, they split in 1982 to work solo. Surprisingly, neither of them produced any notable screenplays on their own since then. I discovered this in a documentary called Angry Young Men, available on Amazon Prime.

I couldn’t pinpoint the secret to their success. The documentary doesn’t clearly show what each of them contributed. But that’s often the case with winning teams—you can’t always see what makes it work, but the results speak for themselves.

Ironically, neither Salim nor Javed could replicate their success after going solo. Was there a secret? A formula? If there was, they would have known it. Maybe there wasn’t. What do you think?
