As a millennial growing up in the 90s, I loved Tetris. In the game, you place falling shapes into spots where they fit. It requires a bit of strategy, like saving spaces for vertical lines to clear rows and give you more room and time. Simple game, but full of surprises. A little strategy, and a lot of fun.

But there’s a catch — you can never win Tetris. You just delay losing. Yet, you keep playing, knowing you’ll eventually lose. Casinos work similarly. The house always wins, but you keep trying your luck. Winning ends the game, but Tetris is a hit because you can’t win. You can’t beat the system.

Today, Tetris reminds me of modern careers. Are you staying in a job or career path because you’re not winning? Maybe we’re playing the wrong game. Maybe it’s time to play Mario or a modern open-world game like GTA V, where you can choose your character, win, and decide how it ends.

Fun fact: GTA V has three endings, and you win in all of them.
