“Everyone must pass with their left foot!” shouted the coach.

There’s a small football ground next to my apartment where kids have their practice matches every evening. From my balcony, I can catch glimpses of the action, though the trees block most of it. However, the coach’s instructions ring out loud and clear.

In life and career, the left foot could also serve as a metaphor for abilities we seldom use. Or the weaknesses we conveniently hide under our core strengths.

In football, passing with your “weak foot” requires deliberate practice. In life, we often avoid it. Why take the risk?

Using your weak foot provides you with options. Sometimes, having options is better than being overly dependent on a single strength.
